Clarke Quay and Boat Quay are constantly abuzz, being home to some of Singapore’s most popular nightclubs, bars, shopping, and cultural tours. Look past the activities and you will notice that the streets and architecture retain elements of its rich past as a fishing and commercial trade hub.
Activities in the Area
The main attraction of Clarke Quay and Boat Quay is the Singapore River which forms the central artery for its thriving nightlife scene.
Take a boat tour and experience the journey taken by the early settlers of Singapore amidst the city skyline and colonial structures. While onboard, you can capture photos of the majestic Marina Bay Sands and the iconic Singapore Merlion Statue. You’ll also see other landmarks such as the Esplanade Theatre and the ArtScience Museum.
Another great spot to visit is, surprisingly, Raffles Place. While it is the center of the Financial District, it features some of the tallest buildings in the city. At the 28th floor of the UOB Plaza One is a viewing room that is open to the public. South along the waterfront is Lau Pa Sat, a Victorian-styled cast-iron structure that used to house a wet market. Now, it’s a lively hawker centre with stalls that sell arts and crafts and regularly shows cultural performances.
During the night, party away any of the bars and clubs in the vicinity. Grab a drink at Chupitos Shots Bar or catch the sunset at Southbridge Bar.
And if you are a history buff then you’re in luck! A mere stone’s throw away is the Asian Civilisations Museum where you can explore the history & cultures of Asia & their shaping of contemporary Singapore. The museum is housed within a beautiful colonial British-style building and is also within walking distance from Fort Canning Park; one of Singapore’s most historic landmarks.
